When I started to think about writing about Old Faridabad, I thought of Faridabad when I was a child. As i started to talk to people and started to do more research, purely out of curiosity and love for my home town, I was astonished. !!. MY HOME TOWN IS REALLY HISTORIC. !!
Random but awesome Fact 1: Tillipat ( or tilpat), which we knew only out of excitement and noise of Air Force planes and the firing range and occasional misfired bomb landing in the middle of the city, was actually one of the five villages asked by pandavs to avoid the kurukshetra (Mahabharat) War. So the dwellings were in place in 6-7th century.
Random Fact 2: Suraj Kund, Anangpur and Tilpat: Predated even establishment of the faridabad city by centuries.
RandomFact 3: Old Faridabad at its present site, and in many ways in the form i knew it, was established in 1600s by Sheikh Farid, a treasurer of mughal emperor Jahangir.
Random Fact 4: Other features of the "Faridabad Shahr" such as Budhia Nala, Anangpur Baandh, hathiya kund, Barahi Talab, were all strategically designed features to harvest the rain water in times of plenty of rains and to last the hot arid months when there was minimal rainfall. There is mention of "Fureedabad" in many old maps of 1800s
