Mere Shahr Ka Naam, The Name of my Town: Tilpat or Faridabad !!!

As it was bound to happen. History buffs have been looking back all the way to Mahabharat and were bound to find the name Tilprastha or Tilpat. Yes !!! Our very own Tilpat known to us over the years just as the village where the IAF airbase is located. Yes it is Historically Correct. Yet, History is often re-written by the victors and over the centuries came Farid Khan (not Baba Farid of Faridkot fame), the treasury wazir in mughal empire who started a new village on the road to Agra. Faridabad. The name that we and the world currently uses.

Tilpat was one of the five villages or areas asked by Pandavs from their bellicose cousins to avoid the Great Mahabharat Yudh. But no !! they would have none of it. Instead they opted for what would be the most destructive war ancient India ever experienced. Incidentally, the five villages were Indraprastha (Delhi), Swarnprastha (Sonipat), Panprastha (Panipat), Vyaghrprastha (Baghpat) and Tilprastha (Tilpat). History alone will see what the future holds.
